Overview

Replace a large legacy intercom door station with a modern Ring wired video doorbell while covering the original wall opening and adding a stronger side angle for improved camera positioning. This 6.5" × 4.75" three-piece 35° intercom retrofit adapter by Hidden River Lab is designed specifically for Ring Wired Doorbell 2K Plus (Model 5DFYA3) and Ring Wired Doorbell 2K (Model 5DFYA4).

These models were previously known as Ring Wired Doorbell Plus (2nd Gen) and Ring Wired Doorbell (2nd Gen), respectively. The adapter supports these two models only and is not interchangeable with adapters for other Ring doorbells.

Designed for many NuTone / M&S (Music & Sound) legacy intercom installations and similar-size openings, the adapter helps conceal the oversized wall cutout left after removing an old intercom door station. It creates a purpose-built angled mounting interface for the compatible Ring wired doorbell.

The three-piece interlocking design consists of a base plate, interface, and 35° corner mount. Both interlocking connections use positive snap-fit engagement reinforced with screws for a clean, secure finished assembly.

The built-in 35° horizontal side angle helps rotate the camera toward your entryway and approach path when a straight installation or smaller side angle does not provide sufficient correction. The reversible configuration allows the doorbell to be angled 35° left or right, depending on the installation layout.

This adapter is particularly useful for installations on side walls positioned perpendicular to the front door. Depending on the mounting location, the 35° angle can help bring the walkway leading to the entrance, the adjacent yard, and the area where visitors stand near the door into the camera's field of view.

Understanding the dimensions:

The 6.5" × 4.75" measurement refers to the overall adapter plate size intended to cover the original intercom mounting area. It does not guarantee that every opening with similar nominal dimensions will be completely covered.

Legacy intercom systems may have different wall cutouts, screw positions, recessed housings, and mounting arrangements. Please compare the existing opening with the adapter dimensions before ordering.

Understanding the 35° angle:

The built-in 35° horizontal side angle redirects the doorbell's viewing direction relative to the mounting wall. The reversible configuration allows the camera to face 35° left or 35° right, depending on the doorway layout and intended viewing area.

Both directions are supported by the same adapter. No separate left-hand or right-hand version is required.

Ideal Installation Scenario — Perpendicular Entry Walls

The 35° corner adapter is particularly well suited for doorbell installations on walls positioned perpendicular to the front door — such as a side wall or recessed entryway return wall where the doorbell would otherwise face along the wall rather than toward the area in front of the entrance.

In this configuration, the 35° horizontal angle helps rotate the Ring doorbell camera toward the entryway and surrounding approach area. Depending on the mounting location and camera field of view, this can help capture a more useful view of:

▪︎ The walkway leading to the front door — helping you see visitors as they approach the entrance.
▪︎ The adjacent front yard — potentially bringing more of the surrounding outdoor area into view.
▪︎ The person standing near the doorway — helping include the area immediately in front of the door in the camera's viewing direction.

The stronger 35° correction can provide more useful camera positioning than a straight 0° mount or a smaller horizontal angle when installing on a perpendicular side wall.

Important: The adapter changes the camera's mounting direction but does not increase the camera's field of view. Actual coverage of the walkway, yard, and visitor area depends on the Ring doorbell model, mounting height, wall geometry, and surrounding obstructions. A 35° angle does not guarantee that all three areas will be visible simultaneously.

Installation Notes

Basic mounting tools may be required (e.g., screwdriver). Follow Ring's instructions for electrical connections, power requirements, and final doorbell installation.

▪︎ Step 1 — Verify compatibility. Confirm that your doorbell is Ring Wired Doorbell 2K Plus (5DFYA3) or Ring Wired Doorbell 2K (5DFYA4). This adapter is not intended for other Ring models.

▪︎ Step 2 — Prepare the installation. Disconnect power at the circuit breaker before handling existing wiring. Remove the old intercom door station and safely manage any remaining wiring. Do not assume that the original intercom wiring or power supply is suitable for a Ring wired doorbell.

▪︎ Step 3 — Install the base plate. Position the 6.5" × 4.75" base plate over the old intercom opening and secure it to the wall using appropriate mounting hardware for the installation surface. Reuse existing mounting locations where suitable.

▪︎ Step 6 — Select the viewing direction. Determine whether a 35° left or right angle provides the desired camera positioning. For installations on perpendicular side walls, orient the corner mount toward the entryway and approach area as appropriate.

▪︎ Step 7 — Plan the wiring route. Before closing the angled assembly, ensure that compatible doorbell wiring can be routed correctly without being pinched, following Ring's instructions for the selected model.

▪︎ Step 8 — Attach the 35° corner mount. Align the corner mount with the interface and press firmly until its interlocking mechanism engages. You should feel and/or hear a second distinct click when the corner mount is fully seated.

▪︎ Step 9 — Secure the corner mount. After the corner mount clicks securely into place, secure it with the included self-tapping screws.

▪︎ Step 10 — Verify the assembly. Confirm that the base plate, interface, and 35° corner mount are fully seated, securely interlocked, and properly fastened before proceeding with the doorbell installation.

▪︎ Step 11 — Prepare the Ring mounting components. Route appropriate wiring and position the original Ring mounting components, if required, following the instructions for your exact Ring model.

▪︎ Step 12 — Mount the doorbell. Install the compatible Ring wired doorbell onto the completed 35° adapter assembly using the appropriate mounting hardware and following Ring's instructions.

▪︎ Step 13 — Verify camera positioning. Confirm that the adapter is securely fastened, the doorbell is properly mounted, and the camera is directed toward the intended viewing area. Check whether the walkway, entrance, and surrounding area are adequately visible.
